Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns Movie Review

Movie: Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns

Starring: Irfan Khan, Mahie Gill, Jimmy Shergill, Soha Ali Khan

Director : Tigmanshu Dhulia

Producer : Tigmanshu Dhulia, Rahul Mittra
Music Director : Sandeep Chowta
Release date: 8th March 2013
Rating : 3.5/5

After the critically acclaimed Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster, one would wonder how good its sequel can get. This time around Sahab Biwi Aur Gangster Returns stars the principal characters Jimmy Shergill, Mahie Gill and two new additions Irfan Khan and Soha Ali Khan in other lead roles. Whether director Tigmanshu Dhulia tries his hands in making this movie better than its prequel let’s find it out now.
Story:
The movie starts with Inderjeet Singh (Irrfan Khan), a gangster turned politician, who is having an affair with Thakur Birendra Pratap’s beautiful daughter, Ranjana (Soha Ali Khan). The couple’s financial differences keep them away from marrying each other. Aditya Pratap Singh (Jimmy Shergill), the Saheb has still not forgiven his biwi, Madhavi (Mahie Gill) of betraying him in the first part. Madhavi is still a drunken and spoilt wife who longs for her husbands love.
It is after Saheb sees Ranjana’s photograph that he determines on marrying her in any case. He in turn blackmails Ranjana’s father, who leaves with no choice but to agree to the Saheb. This is also when Madhavi plans on concentrating on her political career. Birendra Pratap hires Inderjeet to destroy Saheb completely. During the course of all this Madhavi develops a physical relation with Inderjeet while he is still madly in love with Ranjana.
Will Saheb get cornered into Inderjeet’s trap which involves Madhavi. Will Ranjana come to know about Inderjeet and Madhavi’s relation? What happens next ? That forms the rest of the story.
Positive Points:
Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns is far more better than a regular gangster film. It is a vibrant tale of love, lust, passion and surprisingly lot of humor. Irrfan Khan is surely the highlight of the film. He plays his character of a self poised gangster with extreme poise and humour that one doesn’t miss Randeep Hooda at all.
Mahie Gill continues from where she left in the prequel. She plays a drunken displeased woman with faultlessness. Soha Ali is excellent and subtle as the sweet simple girl. Jimmy Shergill, as in the previous part is certainly a rage. He portrays an affectionate wheel-chair bound sahib with excellence and ease.
Negative Points:
The main star of the film Irfan Khan, is not properly introduced in the film and one wonders how does he fit into the whole story which had ended in the first part. His connection with Jimmy Shergill is unexplainable and could have been portrayed in a better way. Even though Mahie plays her part as an unsatisfied biwi with poignancy, some of her drunken sequences are over-the-top.
SBAGR also fails as a standard masala entertainer and is targeted only for specific audience. After a certain while the story gets predictable and moves a bit slowly.
Technical Points:
The songs of the film go with the flow of the scenes, except for the item number by Mughda Ghodse, which could have been a complete no-no to the film. The addition of the track ‘Lag Ja Gale’, gives special meaning to the film. Tigmanshu Dhulia plays smart in choosing the characters, as each of them play their role with ease.
His direction is without a doubt, the best thing in the movie. While the first half of the movie goes by introducing the characters, the second half has all the ingredients that will let you stick to your seats. Unlike its first part, SBAGR has a fair amount of humor quotient, which is a remarkable addition to the movie. The editing and the screenplay drop a bit in the second half as compared to the first.
Verdict:
On the whole Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns is a baap of its prequel. Even though, not targeted for family audiences, the movie has everything that will keep you engaged right till the end. Thrilling sequences, love, lust, passion, revenge this movie has everything and is surely worth a watch. Go for it.

Mahankali Movie Review

http://bhargavasharma.blogspot.in/

Movie:Mahankali

Release Date: 08 Mar 2013
Genre: Action – Drama
Language: Telugu
Director: Kartikeya
Producer: Yeluru Surendra Reddy, Parandhama Reddy
Cast : Dr. Rajasekhar , Madhurima

Review:We keep reading some news or the other every day in the newspapers that makes us angry and emotional. Our tempers flare up, the next day we ready something similar but there could be a degree of difference, the torment and agony continues. We remain hapless creatures but end up as angry individuals fretting and fuming and hugely disappointed and frustrated. The same thing happened with the Delhi gang rape issue. We were all shocked and pained, the second day it continued but as time passed we stopped protesting. Even then we cannot forget that pain. That anger and revenge and the urge to punish the criminals is reflected by seeing our alter ego on screen in the form of task force cops or an encounter specialist who keeps riddling bullets into the criminals. That is why heroes survive and we root for them, somewhere they satiate our thirst and such films become a hit. So Mahankali which runs on those lines worked or not?
Mahankali (Rajashekar) is a sincere police officer, he is weeding out criminals like pests. There is a gang war going between Nayak of Hyderabad and Harshad Bhai in Dubai. Mahankali kills everyone in the encounter. Tanisha is a film star and she is rescued by Mahankali from sexual harassment and she falls in love with because he is gutsy. Chalapati Rao his higher up doesn’t like Mahankali killing the gang members, he is Harshad Bhai’s man and is working towards removing Mahankali as he is a stumbling block. Chalapati makes the authority believe that he is Harshad’s man and gets him removed from his job and even has him jailed. How did Mahankali come out of confinement and wipe out both the warring gangsters forms the crux of the story.
Rajashekar is best suited for angry and emotional roles, he is perfect as a cop. His daring attitude, care a damn behaviour and integrity, all such qualities suit his character and if the script is perfect there is no looking back for him. But after Ankusam directors have not come up with such strong scripts and Jeevita has taken the onus upon herself to give her husband the once upon a time aura he enjoyed. She has studied his pluses and minuses and has balanced the story perfectly. The audience could identify with the tragic scenes because it dealt with the Delhi gang rape, bomb at Gokul chat and the speed required to nab the criminals all were present and that provided a good base for the story. There is no scope for boredom and Jeevita dealt the film surprisingly well.
Rajashekar came up with a genuine performance, though he was ageing, he took great care not to show any traces. Jeevita did handle the film well, she did not make Rajashekar dance to any silly steps and make him do any over action. But at the same time they did not use Madhurima much in the film. Even though Jeevita must have had a meaty role for her she was right in guessing that Madhurima was quite irritating and confined her to a few important scenes. The cop and the gangster spend a lot of time talking over the phone. We heard it is a remake of a Hindi film but it is not necessary to publicise it that way as it has been dealt well. We see traces of Golimar.
Rajashekar is an action hero, we get to see what all we expect from him. The story and narration is not new, there is more sound of bullets than dialogues. Since it is the role of an encounter specialist they have used the rifle liberally. We see a bit of Rajashekar Reddy in one of the characters who play the chief minister, cannot understand why they needed to pull him in here. Songs are less, music is bad but we need to commend Jeevita for maintaining the tempo. Camera work is bad. It is okay if Rajashekar does not give a hit, this average fare will do. There are certain kind of roles that require people like Rajashekar and he did a good job of that. Those who go the film expecting nothing will end up being happy.
